METUCHEN - The Woodwild Park horse trough, a landmark in the borough for more than a century, has gotten a much needed makeover. "I love Metuchen and I love history," said resident Richard Miller, treasurer of the Woodwild Park Association, who spearheaded a fundraiser to restore the antique trough. "I love preservation and this is part of the borough's rich history."

While the average sales price may be down, the market for House Flips stays strong in MetuchenThe average first quarter residential home sale in Metuchen slipped over 10%, but that didn't stop the market for flipped homes to keep on moving up and up and up. The average "flipped" house in Metuchen sold for 41.3% more in 2017 than the average sale from the first three months of the year.. A total of 17 homes were identified as "flipped" in a review of residential sale records from 2014 through today. The study of over 460 sales from the Central Jersey MLS included first sales ranging from $190,000 to $415,000, After renovations or new construction following demolition, the resale of these properties ranged from $318,000 to $894,000. Put another way, the average "first" sale was for $275,882 compared to the "second" sale average price of $650,512. Sample of Flipped Homes - Before & AfterThe first event to celebrate Earth Day will involve a community clean up from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 22. The public is welcome to join members of the Metuchen Recreation Commission, Environmental Commission, Metuchen Pool Commission and Metuchen Public Works to clean up around the Metuchen Pool on Lake Avenue. Participants are asked to bring work gloves, rakes and clippers. Snacks and water will be provided.
The second event will be an educational program held at the Old Franklin School, 491 Middlesex Avenue, from 1-3 p.m., April 29. The program will focus on plastic pollution and reducing single-use plastics and will feature a speaker from NY/NJ Baykeeper and the “Bag It” film. Free “Downtown Metuchen” reusable shopping bags will be distributed. Attendees are asked to bring donations of canned goods or non perishable foods to the event. The events are funded in part by the NJ Clean Communities Grant and the Metuchen Downtown Alliance. After only two weeks of hosting an open house at its latest project, Woodmont Metro at Metuchen Station, Woodmont Properties announced it started construction on its next project, Woodmont Cove in South Amboy.
Following the success of the transit-centered developments in Mount Arlington and in Metuchen, Woodmont Cove, a two-story, 106 townhouse style apartment complex with garage parking and 20 apartment units, will be constructed seven blocks away from the South Amboy NJ Transit train station. No sooner had 22-year-old Metuchen-raised actress-writer-director Quinn Shephard learned that all four screenings at Tribeca Film Festival of her feature directorial debut, “Blame,” had sold out, when NBC-TV announced that it had optioned a pilot in which she had acted. Previously seen in the CBS drama “Hostages” and Paul Feig’s 2006 film “Unaccompanied Minors,” Shephard appears in “Redliners” as Katie Rhymer. The comedic spy thriller also stars Greg Germann (“Ally McBeal”) and Jenny Wade (“No Reservations”). NBC still has to decide whether to air the pilot, which most likely would be in May. One of the most popular locations in the County to walk is the Middlesex Greenway, which will be the site of a Health Walk at 9:30 a.m. April 8. The event is being held in celebration of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy’s (RTC) fifth annual Opening Day for Trails, during which walkers and athletes from throughout the U.S. are invited to explore trails in their communities. The Middlesex Greenway is a former rail corridor that spans 3.5 miles through Metuchen, Edison and Woodbridge. Walkers will meet for the event at the Metuchen Trailhead on Middlesex Avenue (County Route 501). "MANIA" is a multi-media exhibition that will be presented by The Rotunda Gallery at Borough Hall in Metuchen, and will feature Plainfield’s duCret School of Art instructor Kat Block.
Award-winning artist Block has been featured in a number of juried solo and group shows, and she was featured in the 2010 movie “Remember Me” with Pierce Brosnan and Robert Pattinson. This free exhibition opens on April 3rd, and will run through June. Read more at Tapinto. |
