The first event to celebrate Earth Day will involve a community clean up from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 22. The public is welcome to join members of the Metuchen Recreation Commission, Environmental Commission, Metuchen Pool Commission and Metuchen Public Works to clean up around the Metuchen Pool on Lake Avenue. Participants are asked to bring work gloves, rakes and clippers. Snacks and water will be provided.
The second event will be an educational program held at the Old Franklin School, 491 Middlesex Avenue, from 1-3 p.m., April 29. The program will focus on plastic pollution and reducing single-use plastics and will feature a speaker from NY/NJ Baykeeper and the “Bag It” film. Free “Downtown Metuchen” reusable shopping bags will be distributed. Attendees are asked to bring donations of canned goods or non perishable foods to the event. The events are funded in part by the NJ Clean Communities Grant and the Metuchen Downtown Alliance.
